The Enugu state command of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has pleaded with the state government to subsidize the feeding of the corps members in view of the increasing population of the members.
The state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Nwano Ukagha also said that despite all the assistance the state has been giving the command, it is constrained to plead for more assistance, especially in provision of facilities at the orientation camp.
The command made the request during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 ‘B’ corps members at the state orientation camp in Awgu, Enugu State, yesterday.
The new corps members of 2016 Batch ‘B’ deployed to the state however told Vanguard that except for inadequate water supply at the orientation camp, other facilities as hostel, electricity and social services were in fair supply.
The state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who was represented at the ceremony by the state commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze, said government was aware of their challenges and is taking concrete steps to launch an intervention programme. “I wish remind you of the importance of the NYSC programme and the need to be committed to the realization of its objectives.
In order to make success of this assignment, you must be dedicated, focused and ready to apply yourselves to the activities of the orientation course,” said Ugwuanyi.
A total of 2, 169 corps members were registered in the camp, comprising 1, 201 males and 968 females.(Vanguard)
